Listen as your child astonishes you with her newfound ability to create musical compositions. Kindermusik for the Young Child provides a pressure-free, developmentally appropriate transition to musically succeed before taking on more formal instruction. Kindermusik provides the opportunity to explore voice development, rhythm, notation, musical symbols and authentic pre-keyboard, string and woodwind instruments.
Young Child helps every child develop a confident, joyful voice for singing and speaking as well as essential building blocks for a future of learning. Designed for children ages 4 1/2 through 7 years, classes meet once a week for 60-75 minutes. Students explore many facets of the musical experience-speaking, singing, moving, dancing, listening, creating and playing instruments, as well as learning about reading and writing music. As the capstone to the child's Kindermusik journey, Young Child broadens and deepens the child's introduction to the fulfillment and excitement of musicianship.
Fall 2010 - Spring 2011

Semester 1 & 2
In the fall semester your child will prepare to learn to play the glockenspiel by developing his steady beat, motor skills, listening and reading skills. We’ll begin to read notes and rhythms and solidify a pitch center that will be used for the next four semesters. The children will also begin to learn about the orchestral instruments.
In the spring, we will further develop your child’s instrumentplaying skills while developing the greatest instrument of all the voice! Pressure free, developmentally appropriate concepts help effectively prepare children for formal music instruction after age seven.

Semester 3 & 4
In the fall, your child will continue her musical studies with an introduction to Appalacian music (through dances, songs, and the use of the 2-string dulcimer), continue to learn more of the notes on the staff, more musical concepts and dance, play games, sing and play to multi-cultural music.
The spring semester explores multicultural music from Japan to Hawaii to Africa, just to name a few! Your child will learn basic notation concepts on his or her first wind instrument the recorder while gaining confidence and appreciation for their own musical gifts.
*Note: Kindermusik for the Young Child is a 2-year, 60-week course requiring registration for a full year at a time. Regular attendance and homework is expected because we expand upon skills and knowledge acquired the previous week and practiced with a parent at home.
There will be a scheduled parent orientation the week prior to the start of each year.
